Mongolian Airways took flight in 2017 with a mission dedicated to cargo transportation. Initially, we operated two Boeing 737-300Fs, steadily carving our niche in the aviation industry. However, the world's landscape changed dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic, and so did our perspective.
Responding to the growing local demand, we embarked on a transformative journey by heavily investing in Mongolia's general aviation sector, specifically charter helicopter operations. This move introduced a variety of Airbus helicopter types, including the Airbus AS350B3/H125, EC130/H130, EC145/H145, and Robinson Helicopters' R66 Turbine. In just two short years, we ignited a spillover effect, tripling the number of helicopters in our skies and inspiring other businesses and individuals to follow suit. Mongolian Airways proudly stands as the pioneer behind the resurgence of helicopter operations in Mongolia.
Our commitment to elevating general aviation in Mongolia didn't stop there. Recognizing the need for locally trained pilots, we established the Mongolian Aviation Academy, a Part 141 ATO, under our umbrella. Today, our ATO serves the public for their license and rating requirements while also nurturing our future flight crew.
In 2021, we ventured into passenger operations by acquiring the Fokker F27 Mk50. This marked a significant shift from air freight to domestic passenger services, catering to local charter demands and scheduled roster transport needs, particularly for large mining operations. The experience gained served as a steppingstone for our next endeavor, as we expanded our fleet to include Airbus A330 and A320 aircraft, enabling us to offer international passenger operations.
The Government of Mongolia entrusted Mongolian Airways with the responsibility of connecting the country to the world. Designated to operate routes into Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Urumqi, Berlin, Istanbul, Moscow, and Yekaterinburg, we've become a crucial link between Mongolia and these international destinations.
To ensure an exceptional passenger experience, we also engage in ACMI leasing operations in Armenia, Moldova, Turkey, the Middle East, and Europe. Additionally, we conduct charter flights in partnership with travel companies, transporting local tourists to exotic Southeast Asian destinations during the winter travel seasons.
